the milk project
i remembered when a fellow designer asked me on how to capture a splash or a liquid droplets using the camera. i really don't know how to do it. instead of researching it, i tried to experiment. i think it's more interesting rather than knowing the tutorial then following it.
first, i took a white bowl and poured water on it slowly. it didn't work because of the transparency of water don't have the desired effect. aside from that, it's evening and i don't have an adequate lighting.
i was supposed to suspend this trial and error thing when i tried using a flourescent desk lamp near the bowl. that helped but not enough. i tried using flash but it burns the image even i redirect/suppress the lighting.
since it was an experiment, it's ok that i adjusted my iso settings to 1600 and lower my aperture to 4. higher iso settings means more "noise" (pixelated) on the image. i needed light and that compensates the dilemma a little bit. all we need is a faster shutter speed to capture drops. although underexposed (due to inefficient lighting), i just set the shutter to 1/500 - 1/640 of a sec.
the hard part i encountered in this experiment was the timing. i couldn't do the shooting while squeezing the "drops" at the same time and so i asked my roomie to do the bombardment. i tried the burst mode but once again, the problem with the light makes the quality worse. instead, i use the single shot mode and go n-sync with the bombardier. everytime he said piga (squeeze), i snapped.
it took me more than 200+ shots and i got less than 10 good to retain.

shutter speed: 1/640 sec, aperture: f/4, iso: 1600, focal length: 27mm, manual setting
this was fun and drank the milk afterwards. i'll try this once again on a bright daylight.

Hahaha. Interesting experiment, pero mukhang nakuha mo na yung basic. Compose compose n lng.
aba mahusay!!! next time orange juice naman...lol!-er
hi jep,
kahit walang adequate light maganda ang kuha mo. it has a misterious effect kunyari. tawagin mo na lang ang project mo na yan ng "the milky way project" :)
i heard from sha you're a profi photographer and designer. oh btw, thanks a lot for dropping by at my site.
greetings and see you
aww such a sweet shot! it looks so commercial. Ilan bang lata ng gatas ang nasayang sa experiment na to?
macro-shot gives extra-ordinary results.
Pretty cool. I wish I had your flair for photography. Seems like too much work though. :-)
*sigh*
I guess it's point and click for me then. :-)
jeff this is cool.. trial and error nga lang ano.
you actually drank the milk, sobrang kuripot si jeff talaga o.
try with natural light
ferdz, yeah i'm getting it sooner or later.
erik, good idea. i'll do that!
beng, thanks for the comment. mind if i add you to my links as well?
knoi, one bottle of fresh milk and i didn't waste it because i drank it all afterwards
ron, there's nothing wrong if you try it. imagine and practice.
sha, nde ako kuripot. i just love drinking milk... hehehe.
thanks for adding me to your link :) i felt honored. say moh? may makukunan na ako ngayon ng lesson regarding photography.
